My research focuses on the modulation of speech processing in the L2 by visual information from the speaker's mouth and lips, including a systematic treatment of the variable visual salience, in combination with the distance of L1 and L2 sound inventories.

Thus far, my work has focused on operationalizing the notion of visual salience. Using a computer vision approach, we extracted visual parameters of Swedish vowels from the addressee’s perspective. These parameters serve as reference material to define visual salience in the forthcoming experiments on vowel perception in Swedish and German learners. The experiments probe whether audiovisual speech facilitates processing of L2 vowels and if so, which linguistic and individual factors modulate this benefit.

My research interests include multimodality, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and language acquisition.
