Installation lecture: Prosody, brain, prediction

14 October 2021 10:15 to 12:00 Seminar

Mikael Roll

Prosody spans all levels of linguistic information and is also involved in defining basic planning and memory units in speech. I will talk about discoveries in the relation between prosody and syntax as well as morphology. I will also tell you how the study of speech melody and prosodic phrasing has given insight into the working of essential mechanisms of the brain, such as prediction, phonological working memory, and language acquisition. Most importantly, however, I will reveal some stimulus sentences that nobody has ever heard before outside the actual experiments.
