The course aims to provide practical as well as theoretical support for working with language corpora. How should a language corpus be collected, transcribed and analyzed? Spoken-language corpora are emphasized, but the transcription methods that are presented can also be applied to other material such as written texts or sign language. A number of different analysis tools will be explained, with the main focus on CHAT format, and CLAN software.
