Quo vadis, European Union? Perspectives on EU Enlargement from the Insider

Join us as we welcome Dr. Michael Rupp, an EU official (European Commission, DG ENEST- Eastern Partnership, Principal Administrator) and an expert on European Union enlargement, for a public lecture at Lund University (26 May) and and discussions at Malmö University (27 May).

Dr. Rupp will share his decades of experience from the EU institutions, shedding light on the critical issues surrounding the EU enlargement, especially in the context of recent geopolitical developments. This event offers students, researchers, and policymakers an opportunity to engage with EU officials and scholars, fostering dialogue on one of Europe’s most pressing political challenges: the future of EU enlargement.

The public lecture will be held at Lund University, 26 May. The additional discussion with interested scholars will be held on 27 May at Malmö University.

About speaker

Michael Rupp has more than 25 years of experience in working for EU institutions at the European Commission and the European Parliament. He dealt mostly with Foreign Policy and Enlargement issues, human rights and the European Green Deal. From 2015 until 2018 he was Head of Section in the EU Delegation to Turkey. Since February 2025 he is Co-ordinator for the accession process of Moldova in DG ENEST and Co-chair of the Screening meetings. He has an MA from the University of Kingston upon Hull and a PhD in European Politics from the University of Leeds. He has been a visiting lecturer at universities in Brussels, Ankara, Istanbul, Szeged, New Delhi, Paris, the New York University School of Law and the European University Institute in Florence. He is a frequent commentator and participant at panels and workshops and has been chairman, animator and presidency representative of numerous European Council simulations.
