This course introduces you to the fascinating world of translation – where content shifts between languages, and other semiotic systems like gestures and pictures. You'll learn how meaning is shaped, changed, and sometimes challenged in the process.
Translation is more than swapping words between languages – it's about understanding meaning, culture, and context. This course gives you a solid foundation in translation theory, from classical ideas to modern approaches based on semiotics – the study of meaning-making.
You’ll explore how translation works both between languages and other forms of communication, such as film and images. You’ll also examine how cultural differences affect translation and how to think critically about the choices translators make.
Admission Requirements
General and 60 ECTS in a language subject, linguistics or the equivalent.
