About the initiative
The HT faculties are advertising two positions as assistant professors as part of Lund University’s Global Excellence 2026 initiative. These are two attractive positions offering excellent research conditions for applicants with international experience. The two positions are open to applicants whose interests and qualifications align with the themes described below.
Assistant Professor in a Strategically prioritised research area at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology (PA2026/925)

FAQ
Assistant Professor positions
Your application must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for applications to Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer) positions within Lund University Programme for Global Excellence. This document contains detailed instructions regarding the structure and content of the application, including formatting requirements and necessary attachments.
A research plan is a mandatory part of the application. Specific instructions for the research plan are provided in the above‑mentioned document and must be followed carefully. The research plan will be a central component in the assessment of the application.
A: When registering your application in the recruitment system Varbi you will be asked to answer a number of questions relating to your subject of your doctoral degree and area(s) of research expertise. You are also asked to submit a Research plan, outlining your planned research within the chosen field of interest.
Applications from applicants who have obtained their doctoral degree within the last 7 years from the application deadline, will be prioritized. If you have documented special grounds, such as parental leave, military service, or illness, that have prevented you from working as a researcher after graduation, your doctoral degree may be considered even if it was awarded earlier. Kindly note that you are required to submit documentation in support of your invoked special grounds.
If none of the above special circumstances apply to you, but you obtained your doctoral degree more than seven years before the application deadline, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that not meeting the criteria affects the overall competitiveness of your application.
How much of my time does this correspond to?
As the holder of the position, you are guaranteed at least 75% of your working time for your own research. The exact distribution of duties will be determined through an agreement between the successful candidate and the Department.
For the calls Assistant Professor with specialisation in Sustainability in Humanities or Theology(PA2026/753), and Assistant Professor in a Strategically prioritised research area at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology (PA2026/925), the criteria is listed as a Requirement, meaning the criteria will operate as a parameter for identifying formally qualified applicants. If you do not meet this requirement, kindly note that you are not eligible for these specific calls.
For the call Assistant Professor in Cognitive Science with Specialisation in Excellence in Education (PA2026/1055) no remuneration‑related criteria are used, nor applicable.
I am employed as a Marie Curie fellow; although this is European and not Swedish funding – am I eligible to apply?
If you are currently a Marie Curie fellow, or employed with other European funding, we warmly welcome you to apply. However, kindly note that the Joint Faculties of Humanities and theology cannot guarantee that you will be eligible for nomination for the upcoming Swedish Research Council’s call related to assistant professors with an international background.
We recommend using the English version of the application page throughout the entire process. Please note that the questions—and their order—may vary slightly between the English and Swedish versions. Unfortunately, this inconsistency cannot be corrected.
