Course
Course 15 credits • LIVR55
Since the financial crisis of 2008, Spanish authors have used fiction to understand, question, and influence their society. This course invites you to explore how literature can be both artistic and political – and how it reflects a changing world.
This course focuses on contemporary Spanish novels that engage in social critique. You’ll learn to analyse literary texts using relevant theoretical tools and place them in historical, social, and ideological contexts. The course highlights how fiction portrays Spain’s societal challenges after the 2008 crisis, and how aesthetics and critique work together.
You’ll develop your ability to discuss literature’s role in public debate and practice expressing independent and critical ideas in spoken and written Spanish.
