Call for Presentations: Nationalism, Populism and Christian Theology

Christianity has a close, complex and multifaceted relationship to nationalism as well as political populism. While the origins of nationalism and the role of Christianity in the emergence of nationalism are debated, it is clear that there is and has been a lot of ideological interchange between the two. In a similar way, many forms of political populism interact with Christianity; populist movements draw on Christian identity, and Christian symbols and narratives are laid claim to in a the kind of rhetoric that underpins many populist movements. This calls for a theological reflection.

The Centre for Theology and Religious Studies invites senior and junior scholars, as well as graduate and undergraduate students to a workshop on May 7. The objective of this explorative workshop is to see how to approach this theme theologically.

Participants should make a presentation of 10 minutes. Please send a short abstract of not more than 250 words together with a short note including affiliation, status (student, researcher etc.) and contact details to: <link mail internal link in current>maria.sturesson@ctr.lu.se

Deadline: 23 April 2020.

There is space for a limited number of presentations. Acceptance according to ‘first come, first served’. When the schedule is filled no more can be accepted. Notification of the definitive programme will be sent to all participants on April 28.
