Belonging in a Burning World

28 maj 2025 13:15 till 15:00 Seminarium

Belonging in a Burning World: diasporic thinking for our current moment ? A participatory and interactive conversation, exploring the possibilities for dialogue between literary and ecological studies, in a time of planetary crisis.

Urszula Ulla Chowaniec, SOL and Daniel Macmillen Voskoboynik, the Department of Human Geography.

We would like to invite all of literary and enviromental scholars to an open and participatory session with a doctoral researcher, Daniel Macmillen Voskoboynik, who is working at the intersection of literary studies and ecological studies. This seminar would be an opportunity to foster collaboration between the Human Ecology division and Literature department, as we are both engaged in similar topics within diasporic studies. While I explore the concept of diasporic intimacy, he focuses on diasporic ecology, making this a potentially fascinating and enriching discussion for all involved.

Daniel Macmillen Voskoboynik is a doctoral student at Lund University, focusing on the climate crisis, migratory cultures, and diasporic ecological knowledge. Over the last decade he has worked as a researcher, organiser and translator within human rights and climate justice movements, for organisations such as Amazon Frontlines and Oxfam International. He is the author of The Memory We Could Be (2018) and Sheet Music for the Wind (2016).
